We began Open Gate Farm in 2006 with three goals:
Farmsteading on a small, diversified family farm
We raise animals for meat, eggs, milk and cheese, and grow vegetables, herbs and fruit. Every day we are grateful for a life that is closely connected to the land, in tune with the seasons and that requires physical labor and ingenuity. We also love feeding family and friends our fresh, delicious and nutritious food.
Providing access and education about the local food movement
We enjoy providing access to a small farm that raises chickens, pigs, goats, turkeys, ducks, cows and produce. We especially want children to experience the connection to their food source, and to have fun doing it. We practice farming in a way that sustains environmental systems. We're eager to teach and learn about how farms can provide food that is clean, safe, nutritious and doesn't harm the earth in its production.
Making our living as farmers
We produce vegetables, herbs, eggs, heritage pork and pastured chicken for sale. Providing access to a working farm through farm tours, workshops and events can also help a small farm to be economically viable.
