“An authentic, hands-on learning experience”

Open Gate Farm is a small family owned farm located in Albemarle County, just 12 miles northwest of Charlottesville, Virginia. We enjoy providing access to one of the many vibrant local sustainable farms in our community. Open Gate Farm welcomes visitors to the full experience of a working farm. Our farm tours are designed to be educational, experiential, and fun!
When we say hands on, we mean it. Children will romp with the piglets, gather eggs from under a hen, hold baby chicks, learn how to milk a goat, pet the sows, talk with the turkeys, taste herbs, berries and fresh vegetables, ramble on a nature walk, and much more.

"We just wanted you to know what a fabulous time we had today at your farm. It was amazing and I know that my class will never forget what they saw, heard, smelled & experienced! I know I won’t – the amazing laying of an egg is something I will forever remember! Thank you for being so wonderful to us and gracious and informative and just plain AWESOME! We had the most wonderful time!" - Sherry

"Mark and I came away from your home and farm today feeling wonderful. I didn't expect the tour in such detail but loved how you marveled at its wonder and you caught us up in it as well. I hope others who visit can touch and feel and absorb the energy that thrives in you and your animals. We'll look forward to some tasty eats, all the while being thankful for the lives they lived. It was our privilege to meet you. We'll be back." -- Best, Jill
